ALA Council I

ALA Council I

Informational meetings were held prior to Council I were the general membership information meeting and the ALA-APA informational meeting.

These both were beginning informational meetings to bring us up to date on the business of ALA and ALA-APA.    Detailed information will follow in my reports as specific issues arise.

Attendance figure for Seattle so far,  Registration 8,145 with a total attendance to date of 10,355.  These are higher than previous meetings of 6,926 registrations and 9,357 total for San Antonio.

ALA-APA lost money in 2006, but is $21,757 in the black for 2007.

Plans are to have an opportunity for member feedback on a total re-do of the ALA website at Annual in Washington DC.

Reports on distribution of resolutions from the annual meeting in New Orleans were distributed and discussed.  While the efforts are better than in the past, there was discussion of how we can make the system of distribution even better.

We spent a 30 minutes brainstorming on Hot topics, creating a buzz about council.

Today’s hot topic was how to encourage participation of members in council and how to clarify the work of council.

This proved to be a spirited conversation and was felt to be so beneficial we agreed to add this activity on a different hot topic at each conference.
