Change in Student Loan Forgiveness Law

Please take note; effective October 1, 2007 changes in the "College Cost Reduction and Access Act" now include "public library sciences and school-based library sciences" in the Public Service Job definitions.  The changes in this law, which can be found on THOMAS under H.R. 2669, could have an impact on library school students.  I have not read the law in detail, but basically it provides for a loan forgiveness for public service employees in certain circumstances.  This may mean that certain library school graduates are qualified for some loan forgiveness.  Please reference the law to see if you are eligible.  If you know a library school student, please make sure they are aware of the provisions of this law.  This could be beneficial to librarians in Kansas.  ALA has been working with the US Congress to include librarians in this law and were successful!
