Proposed Intellectual Freedom Changes

I discovered that the "attachments" didn't go through on the previous posting, so I edited it and copied the text of the changes to the post.

These changes have generated some heated debate on the council list which is bascially divided between those who feel that the original documents said, "all" which means everyone and a list enumerating who is included in "all" isn't necessary and those who feel that until we reach a point where everyone is actually included is it imperative that we keep adding to the list, so that we provide documentation that we mean "everyone" when we say "all."

While I would love to not have to list who is included in "all", at this point, I probably will support the changes to help ensure that people are not excluded due to someone's definition of all.

What does "expression" mean as used in the Sex,Gender etc. statement? How do you identify and mandate "expression"?

I also think the term "languages commonly used" is pretty vague, maybe that was the intent.

These questions are part of the discussion on the council list. My understanding of the use of "expression" in this context is for someone who is chosing to live as a person of the gender different than their biological gender without or before an operation to make them physically consistent with their lifestyle. I'm not sure how that is identified or mandated.

The "languages commonly used" is a grammatical change from the original which was "in common use." I believe that the original and the change are purposly vague given the wide variety of languages used across the country and encountered in various libraries and communities.
